Dog Diseases: Find out which one your dog is more prone to

Dog diseases are quite common, and if dog owners do not pay proper attention, their dog might catch some deadly dog diseases. Therefore, it is extremely important to ensure that your dog is up-to-date in terms of vaccinations and immunizations. This will ensure that your dog’s health is secure, and that it will not fall prey to various kinds of dog diseases and infections. There are some diseases which can be saved by preventive shots, while others can be cured with proper care.

One of the most common dog diseases is Parvovirus, also known as Parvo. This disease is highly contagious, especially in the case of puppies. Sadly, it can lead to death within 48 to 72 hours of occurrence of symptoms, which include vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and even depression.

Distemper is another dog disease which is fatal in case of 80% puppies and almost half the adult dogs. This dog disease is quite common, and all dogs are prone to it. Therefore, it is important to get timely vaccinations done from the vet in order to save your dog from this.

Next comes in Rabies. It is actually a virus that turns fatal when the symptoms start occurring. Besides dogs, Rabies is dangerous to humans as well. This is probably the reason why the state governments are quite strict about the vaccinations and boosts against Rabies.

Some other diseases that dogs can catch include Heartworm and Kennel Cough. Heartworms are actually parasites that have a tendency to multiply in number, and can create problems in the chambers of the heart. The symptoms for this dog disease appear quite gradually, and include mild cough, laziness and quick tiring. If there is delay in treating this disease, then there can be a heart failure leading to death.

Kennel Cough, on the other hand, is a respiratory disease. It occurs in kennels and other dog shelters, and the symptoms include dry cough, with a burning sensation in the bronchial tubes as well as trachea. In order to prevent this, vaccination should be carried out every six months.

Leptospirosis is one dog disease whose symptoms include inflammation of kidney, mild fever, vomiting and lethargy. Similar symptoms are present in another disease too known as Lyme disease. This one also has joint pain along with lymph node enlargement.

Last but not the least, comes Coronavirus, which is characterized by diarrhea and vomiting. It is often confused with the parvovirus, but both dog diseases are actually quite different. Other symptoms of this include foul smelled diarrhea, dehydration, lethargy and decrease in appetite.
